Is this a good read as a stand alone(starting with "Precipice" of course)? Or would I be lost reading the "Lost Tribe of the Sith" series without reading others?

It's a stand alone story, with new characters. That said, you may find the excerpts at the end (in the current second generation after the end of the movies) a bit confusing.
