RSS Feed

I believe MobileRead only mentions the RSS feed for Mobile News but it is avaiable for the forums. My question is why don't you update the RSS feeds automatically whenever someone adds a message to the forum? It is great to have the RSS feed but disappointing not to see it updated in real time. This is an active site but not so active that updating the XML would be an issue. Thank you

Just wanted to *bump* this. I didn't realise until today that there were RSS feeds for the actual forums themselves as well as general news. I thought *awesome!* and immediately subscribed to a couple of feeds. But as Timezone pointed out above, the feed update seems quite laggy. Is there a technical restriction causing this? Just wondering, (please don't take it as a complaint).

Cheers...

Indeed, RSS feeds were updated every 60 minutes until you pointed it out. Generally, we cache the results to conserve server resources. But with better and faster hardware, we can now comfortably reduce the cache lifespan to 30 minutes.

The Wiki isn't related to this and doesn't use the same caching procedure.

Thanks, it could use some speeding up as well. In particular the recently changed page is one I like to track.

There is a bug in the most recent version of our Wiki software that could delay the update interval your client uses to refresh the Feed. See here. Generally, the cache used by our Wiki is set to be very generous - it caches only for a minute or so.

Maybe that is it. I see changes in the wiki that are over an hour old but my last feed is from 2 1/2 hours ago. However not messages from different users should not have this problem would it? I just checked a change and it came through so perhaps the bug is the only problem. I did notice I wasn't checking the feed from my end as often as I thought.
