Does the ORIGINAL Kindle support the latest firware updates?

I ask because on eBay I see some cheaper, used original kindles (first gen) and was wondering if they support the latest firmware updates with all the pdf goodness?

The Kindle 1 units do not support any of the features now present in the Kindle 2 or DX units. They are excellent readers but not for PDF files.
