Cybook Firmware 1.2 v832 Crashes
Hi
I have a Cybook with version 1.2 build 832 of the firmware that keeps crashing/freezing whilst reading a book . I have tried downgrading the firmware to version 796 but it seems to ignore the sd card and just starts as normal. Anyone any ideas how to downgrade the machine or any other suggestions? Thanks |

Is it freezing on one particular book, or on all books? Have you done a "chkdsk" of the file system? I think it's very unlikely that the firmware is to blame for the problem.

I do not think it is the firmware either. Installing a fmt version might solv the problem if it is caused by a corrupted disk. When upgrading are you sure you are following the instructions correctly? I would double check that. |

What file type is the book(s) this is happening with?
I have the a similar problem with version 1.2 build 830. It only happens with plain text files, mobi files work file. After reading for a while the device stops responding completely the light at the top doesn't even light up when pressing any buttons. I have to reset it using the little button on the back. |

Hi,
It fails on several books I've tested, all Mobi format. If it's going to fail, its early in reading on Page 1 or 2 or 3, if I get to 10 it's fine for the rest of the session. I didn't upgrade to the versions, it's what was pre-installed. J |

Are you using a custom font family? I so try changing to one of the default fonts.
I thought that I had a corrupted mobipocket file but it turned out it was hanging when it hit some italic text and it was a problem with a custom font I had installed. |

Mobi support is generally "rock solid". Try doing a chkdsk of the file system.

Right, it is chkdsk'd and it's fine.
Changed from one of the built in fonts to another one and it hasn't crashed so far. Hmmm. Lets hope. J |

If you thinks it a bug with your font (and not a bug in the font) don't hesitate to send a mail to the Bookeen's Support Team ( support at bookeen dot com )

what font?
Is it possible to post the font file? maybe the file is corrupted? Does the Cybook recognise corrupted fonts? |

It's the built in Verdana that is crashing the machine it seems.
My other half has a cybook also but older F/W version, will the font just copy across? that one seems ok. J |

It would be no problem, but I doubt you will find the builts-in fonts as they are not located in the fonts folder.
You can either chose to downgrade to the current publicly available version of the firmware (796) or you wait for the new update and ignore verdana until then. |

832 is currently a not public / re-installable firmware. If this bug is really important for you, you may contact Bookeen support about this. If you not in a hurry, you can wait too for the next release that, I hope, will be online in a few days ^^

I just use it to read fiction on and one font is as good as another for me, thankfully the pointer to fonts got me (hopefully) sorted well enough. |

I have experienced that the cybook gen 3 freezes when the memory card or book is completely full. A solution to that is to delete a few books and always keep some diskspace free. Some relations to temporary files, I believe.
