Book Designer Help

Hello, everyone.

I'm having some trouble with formating a book in Book Designer that I hope y'all can help me with.

Here is my problem: I purchased a book from Fictionwise in Secure eReader format. Since I did this accidentally and and I can't use that format on my Sony Reader I did a little conversion on the file to make it an HTML file that I then imported into Book Designer to make an LRF. So far so good.

My problem is that large portions of the text are italicized which shouldn't be and because I am a novice with BD I'm having trouble figuring out how to properly format the text.

What happens is when I highlight a portion of text to de-italicize it, simply clicking the "italics" button a couple of times does not do anything. Clicking the "paragraph" button reformats the entire novel so there is no formatting at all in the text. The text becomes one long block of text with no paragraph breaks or formatting. It seems as if there is some kind of "universal" style on the text that is preventing just a portion of it from being formatted differently.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Regards,
Michael

1. Try clicking on tools, then select Element Browser. It will display all your titles. Adjust it to display italics. Click on each incorrectly italicised passage in the Element Browser window and use the "reformat selected item" command at the bottom to reconfigure as a paragraph. Then in the main window, adjust the paragraphs properly.
or
2. On the File menu, click 'Save as' and save the file as an html0 file on your desktop. Open the html0 file. Click on edit. (It's the "W" icon, if you're in Word.) Edit to remove extraneous italics, then reimport the file to BD.

Or just go back to your source html and find and delete the extraneous tags.

Could be some of the styles are set to italic instead of normal.

Patricia, your suggestion to look at the .html0 file was the key. In the original HTML all the open and close tags for italics where were they needed to be. But in the HTML0 file there was a missing close italics file. I think I have my problem solved. Thanks.

Michael
