Cannot display this Character

I'm trying to put this character ἶ into an epub as it is used in the source file of a document I'm converting but I seem unable to display it in either Sigil of notepad or Edit+ (my current favourite text editor) but it displays fine in my browser.

The source file (html) has it as & #7990; (I had to enter a space between the & and the # or it kept getting converted to the character), but entering this in instead makes no difference.

Anyone got any ideas on what this character is, and what I need to do to put it in the document.

Never mind, I think I've got the right character, it appears to be a lower-case i with a tilda above it.

Not sure why the source file didn't used the UTF-8 character as the file uses UFT-8.

Well, the 'Extended Greek' set is maybe a little obscure or underused. Perhaps the chosen font doesn't include it? I use FontForge (linux) to check that kind of thing. There probably are other font coverage tools out there.

You are probably right.

I'll look into getting a font coverage tool if I can find them at the right price, i.e. free or very cheap.
