It's a clear, crisp morning here of 51F. It should reach about 70F for a high. Should be lovely. Rain expected for Saturday. But we need it, so that's a good thing.

Nice day, today!
But ... this is the last week of October. Now, I like October, I really do. I like the leaves changing color, the earlier sunsets, the chill in the air. Heck, my birthday is in October! However, October has it in for me! In the last two years October has tried to kill me as it left. In 2011 we had a blizzard that brought down a bunch of trees in the yard and tore the electric service wires off the house -- along with a bit of the roof and some siding. We went a week without electricity. No lights, no heat, and (since we have a well) no water. Then, last year, just as October was getting ready to leave, we got hit by Sandy -- who seemed to have a particular grudge against New Jersey. All the weak trees were already down from 2011, but Sandy tore the storm door off and knocked down more healthy trees than we could count. (Seriously! Firewood is very, very cheap this year!) We had no traffic lights in town for five days, no electricity at home for 8 days, and no internet connection for two weeks. So, much as I like October, I'm taking some simple precautions. I've got a pallet of water jugs in the garage, canned goods in the basement, and stacks of paper plates and plastic utensils. I've got a big box of batteries and my flashlights are handy. And I've been thinking of taking short vacation this week. Maybe a nice visit to Indiana ... Last edited by cromag; 10-26-2013 at 02:30 AM. |

Slightly humid, but pleasant 71F morning. Expected to reach 81F for the high today with storms expected tomorrow. Sounds more like Spring than Fall.

The weather just can't make up it's mind today. Five minutes ago the sun was shining, it was raining, there was thunder and lighting and it was windy all at the same time. Half an hour ago we had hail.

Overcast and cool today. The weather has been so mild that I have bulbs already coming up in my garden and marigolds that have come up from seed again.

Gusty blasts of arctic air has dropped the temps by 20 F this afternoon ... now we're having cold drizzle that's supposed to change to flurries as night time temps fall into the low 20's F.

We had a windy and cool low of 52F yesterday morning that didn't warm much through the day. Woke up to 29F this morning (a bit early in the season for a freeze in this neck of the woods) and should only reach 50-52F for a high today. Ditto for tonight and tomorrow. Not really looking forward to winter.

Drat! No flurries! I was SO hoping to get 'snowed in' - hey, this is the south - people were buying ice melt and stocking up on bread & milk yesterday!
Just plain cold! For the next day! Then back into the 60's F by the weekend! |

We had a few flurries this week. I don't like snow unless it SNOWS, then I like it to leave as soon as it starts getting sloppy.
