Plugins under Win 8

After upgrading to Win8 and running Calibre from the Windows.old directory I discovered that user installed Plugins are gone. Worse, when trying to install them again I ran into a few snafus. The first is that in the Plugin Window the buttons don\t react to mouse clicks, the other is that a user installation from the Zip file does not work. I get a Python error message.
Hence, I upgraded from 0.9.3 to 0.9.4 but the outcome was the same. Has anyone else had problems after upgrading to Win8?
