Age demography: what's your age?
I have the feeling this is a forum where the average age of the users is much higher than any other forum I know, so I hope you don't mind this little question about demography. In which age group are you established?

Ummm, what if you are exactly 21, 28, 35,42, 49, 56, or 63 (like me) - or does that question only arise on one's birthday?
Don't you just hate programmers? literal minded jerks, everyone of them! OK, since my birthday has passed, I guess I'm the next one up... |

***I have the feeling this is a forum where the average age of the users is much higher than any other***
It'll be interesting to see if you're right, Logseman. I'm not sure, though. Perhaps the middle-aged (especially women) are very heavy readers, but when it comes to ebooks and new tech, the younger end of the reading market might well tip the balance. I suspect, too, that a pretty large percentage of ebooks are read on smart phones and iPods, which might be difficult for older folks as the eyesight dims. I'm sixty and manage fine with PC, laptop, netbook and a Sony 505, but when I tried reading a novel on my son's iPod last year, I couldn't handle more than a few pages. Let's hope enough MR members respond in this poll to give us some idea. It's especially interesting to me as a partner in a small indie press because all the statistics I've seen so far seem to be the result of educated guesswork. Happy weekend. Neil |

I'm curious how this goes.
I like how you didn't divide the age groups by decade, they feel better this way |

Of course, that question only arises in the exact minute you were born in the day of your birthday :P

you know, i kind of like the way this question comes back about once a year. other than the obvious fact that we're all a year older than the last time, it will be interesting to see whether there is a notable evolution in the demographic over time. we just have to find a way to keep track of all the old surveys so we can dig them out and compare them whenever a new one comes up... what do you think, is this a good candidate for a wiki page ?
