How to be TRULY Anonymous
Anybody have any really good advice on how to epublish anonymously?
I mean REALLY anonymously - like scrubbing out the metadata that wicked smart folks know how to drill down and find that can reveal your IP, name, etc. I've got an idea for a project, but I don't want to get flamed or hacked. Not because of anything bad! Just because that's how things go, you know? Anyone? |

In a previous life, not too long ago I was involved in forensics and still teach. Uploading an attachement to Amazon etc shouldn't leave an IP adress. The software you created the document on could. For instance any Word document will have the software owner's name on it. It's my belief that the information is scrubbed during the formatting... but am not sure.
But, to answer your question... create the work on a clean computer that you put a fictitious name on and the same with the word processing software you write with. And then, upload from the library or some other Wii source that isn't associated with you. Good luck with your © copyright! |

Is anything really Anonymous anymore? I seem to remember that Dennis Raider (The BTK killer) got caught finally because he used a computer that belonged to his local church to make a floppy disk on which he'd written a document that he sent to a local newspaper. The authorities were able to track the disk back to the particular computer it was created on and thence to Mr.Raider (he was a deacon of the church whose computer he used).

The computer Raider used tagged his Word software with the registered owner of the software -the church. That's why I wrote, "create the work on a clean computer that you put a fictitious name on and the same with the word processing software".
As I indicated the Copyright will be the challenge. ; ) L |

In theory, shouldn't you be able to create the document on any computer you want, as long as you open it on an anonymous one, and save it as a different file there? In that case, a library should do nicely. |

The cover (and other images) will also have meta-data that could be traced to you. So probably the easiest way would be to not have any images at all, and write your own html in a dos text editor from the 80s.
Uploading it would be more tricky, I don't know if any of the ebook publishing sites would work through a proxy? |

But programs from the 80s pre-date the craze for spying on people by several decades, even ones written by Microsoft and Apple. There was just no way to collect information on people in those days. |

Get a hex editor. You can then treat you document as data, and look for anything you want to erase/change, and change it. And you can stick anything else you want in it's place.
It's all ones and zeros... (I use HexEdit 3.0) |

To be fully anonymous:
* Ensure the file you wish to upload does not have hidden meta tags of any kind. Using plain text (.txt) is good too. * Buy a new budget laptop with wifi capabilities. Around 200-300 should see you ok. Pay in cash. * Go to Mc.Donalds. Use "their" wifi to connect to the internet. Upload from your car, do not enter the store. * Burn the laptop. |

The only way it'll REALLY work is to cut out the letters of your book from a newspaper and glue them onto a sheet of paper........ ; )
