Renegade Rising by J.C. Fiske. YA fantasy. Evidently a self pubbed series. Sample was readable. Reviews good but sparse.
http://www.amazon.com/Renegade-Risin...8229996&sr=1-1

Quote:
Life’s tough if you’re a boy named Gisbo. Besides having a name that means "dog" in a barbaric tongue and being forced to live all alone in a manure shack outside the city walls, Gisbo has also never soared on a flying sword, raised a boon animal, or made a single friend.

When he isn’t washing the graffiti off his shack, Gisbo’s time is spent dodging insults from his spoiled classmates and fighting for his life against the city’s arrogant clash team.

But all of that is going to change. Gisbo is finally sixteen and ready to try out for Elekai’ training in hopes of becoming an Elekai’ warrior, his biggest dream. However, when the tryouts go terribly wrong, Gisbo is whisked away to a life he never dreamed possible and learns that sometimes, truth can be stranger than legend when you’re Renegade born

The Prodigal Hour by Will Entrekin. Semi self pubbed action/adventure. A few good reviews.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Prodigal-H...8231525&sr=1-1

Quote:
On October 31st, 2001, six weeks after escaping the World Trade Center attacks, Chance Sowin moves back home, hoping for familiarity and security. Instead, he interrupts a burglary during which his father, Dennis, is shot and killed.

What begins as a homicide investigation escalates when the Joint Terrorism Task Force arrives. Where he hoped for solutions, Chance finds only more questions: who killed his father, and why? Was his father--a physicist at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study--working on dangerous research? Why did Dennis build a secret laboratory in his basement?

Chance might not know the answers, but Cassie Lackesis, Dennis' research assistant, thinks she does. She isn't certain Dennis discovered a way to time travel, but she knows who told her: Chance.

Together with Cassie, Chance will go on a journey across time and space that will challenge his every notion of ideas like "right" and "good." One young man's desire to make a difference will become, instead, a race against time as he tries to prevent forces he could never understand from not just destroying the universe but rendering it nonexistent.

When every action has a reaction, every force its counter, Chance will find that the truest measure of his character is not what he wants but what he will do when the prodigal hour returns.

New Pulp Press offers a 2010 published crime drama for free at least today. Few review. Sample first.
The Science of Paul: A Novel of Crime by Aaron Philip Clark.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Science-Pa...8236909&sr=1-1

Quote:
Ex-convict Paul Little has just walked out on the only woman who has ever loved him to return to a life of crime in Philadelphia. But when Paul gets involved with a petty thug who is later murdered, he finds himself pinned between the volatile gangster accused of the crime and the straight-laced detective who put Paul away years ago. Realizing the city may be the death of him, Paul looks to escape to North Carolina and live alone on a farm left to him by his recently deceased grandfather. Can Paul survive long enough to make it to the succor of the farm? Will he inevitably return to a life behind bars? Or is it his fate to die a victim in Philadelphia? The Science of Paul is a stunning tale of redemption and self-exploration, as one man navigates the precariousness of the streets and the inner workings of his mind.
