Are there any present or upcoming hacks to read .epub on the Kindle Paperwhite?

Asking before I decide to order it.

Simply use Calibre to remove the DRM from your EPUBs and convert them to Kindle format. There's plenty of information on this forum, although you will need to look elsewhere for the procedure to remove the DRM (Google is your friend.).

That is exactly what I do not want to do and lose the functionality and formatting benefits of EPUB.

Why don't you try a few conversions and see if you are really losing anything before deciding? The new Amazon format is very closely related to EPUB. In addition, Calibre has a lot of custom formatting options.

Convert to AZW3 or New Mobi and you wont have that problem. KF8 is basically Amazon's version of Epub. There is very little difference between the two formats.

Old Mobi is the format with limitations.
