Thumbs up Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo) Deep Summer [Vintage 1700s Louisiana Family Saga w/Romance]

Deep Summer by the late journalist and novelist Gwen Bristow (Wikipedia), an Alabama Hall of Fame inductee who had one of her novels turned into a 1930s Hollywood film, is the 1st in her vintage Plantation Trilogy historical family saga with romantic elements, covering the women and men of a particular Louisiana family as they live through dramatic life-altering historical events, this one the installment setting them up as late 18th century settlers to new territory, spanning from the mid-1700s to the early 1800s, free courtesy of publisher Open Road Media, who are e-printing it from its much-reprinted original 1937 edition.

This is being offered free apparently throughout the US holiday long weekend just for today, Nov 25th, according to the newsletter, and if you'd like to read the rest of the trilogy following the family through the Civil War and early 20th century, there's a money-saving omnibus edition available alongside the singles which may or may become deep-discounted during ORM's usual CyberMonday sale.

Currently free @ B&N, Amazon & Kobo & iTunes (none available to Canadians since they've become so stingy about giving us the discount deals, much less the freebies), and Google Play (available to Canadians).

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because vintage sweeping historical sagas by apparently-notable less-well-known authors with real historical events incorporated into them as well as the standard dramatic challenges are always nice to get.

Enjoy!

Description
Bristow does “a grand job of storytelling” (the New York Times) in this memorable novel of the late eighteenth-century pioneers who settled the Louisiana wilderness, establishing a civilization of charm, luxury, and tragic injustice

For his service in the king’s army during the French and Indian War, Judith Sheramy’s father, a Puritan New Englander, is granted a parcel of land in far-off Louisiana. As the family ventures down the Mississippi to make a new home in the wilderness, Judith meets Philip Larne, an adventurer who travels in the finest clothes Judith has ever seen. He is a rogue, a killer, and a thief—and the first thing he steals is Judith’s heart.

Three thousand acres of untamed jungle, overrun with jaguars, Indians, and pirates, wait for Philip in Louisiana. He and Judith will struggle with their stormy marriage and the challenges of the American Revolution as they strive to build an empire for future generations.

This is the first novel in Gwen Bristow’s Plantation Trilogy, which also includes The Handsome Road and This Side of Glory.

Boring tidbit, but has anyone else had issues with the 'instant purchase' button at B&N the last several days? It is working again for me today, but gave error messages for maybe a week there.
