I was glad to see the return of mobi format for this series. I suffered through the Topaz (so far the only Topaz I've bought knowlingly), because I was enjoying the books so much.
Yeah, that seems to match with the samples I just downloaded. #2 is not even available to download now, though. Guess I'll just enjoy them as they are, since I *do* have #2 from the summer release.

It wasn't really a return to Mobi for book 6, at least IIRC. Book's 1 & 2 were free for a few weeks to promote the release of book 6 which got a regular ebook release. Then the rest were made available only from Amazon later after book 6 came out. At least that's how I remember it. The book 2 freebie might have even been one of the first topaz books put out I think.

You're right - I used "return to mobi" incorrectly. I did hold off on buying 6 for a long time, until 5 was available. (in any format).

I wonder if they used Topaz for the middle books, released in e-book later, because it was in a format they had available? I'm saying this, because people have commented that Topaz is almost between a scanned image and OCR'd text, making Topaz quick-and-dirty.

St. Martin's-Minotaur did a similar thing for the Louise Penny books - 1&2 are Topaz but 3 is Mobi. It's not a generalized drift towards Topaz, yet, thank goodness.
