I have Lucinda on my Nexus 7.2 I copied it from the HDX and added various weights to it, next to Trebuchet and Amasis it's one of my most used fonts. I can't stand Georgia on the Kindle Fire or Kindle app. I would rather have Caecilia if I had to pick a serif font. Georgia is the font on the Kindle app. |

Still cannot see blue borders.

I like that white text on the black background for low ambient light conditions like reading in my rocking chair at my bay window at sunset. I only use the PW 2013 for bright room lights and sunlight. Are you saying a photo would show the blue border on the white text on black background setting even if I cannot see it? |

Blue borders??
Quote:
I see my HDX 2013 just as the screen shot posted it - no blue borders - just a black border blending into the black background. If your mom really can see blue borders on that screen shot I just posted, I may just keep my large cataract for LIFE. Why would I want to degrade my vision? By the way, I have Macular Degeneration as well as that large cataract. Yet my ophthalmologist tells me I am one of his very few patients who can see, read and drive without glasses. Why change it? By the way, operating on a cataract can cause the Macular to get worse and cause blindness. Its better to just leave well enough alone if one does have Macular Degenaration. There is no cure for that problem other than Heaven. Maybe the Macular has blocked my seeing of all those reported defects on the Paperwhites and the Fires. I've never seen any of them and I have FOUR of those units now and had two additional which I've given away. As they say, "every cloud has a silver lining." I just see perfect text on perfect backgrounds and can read them all perfectly. Last edited by sirmaru; 11-25-2013 at 05:52 PM. |

On my HDX #3 you could see blue borders but the other two I had no you could not problem is I can't read on black background at all. Gives me migraines and makes me see slots or blinds. White text is too blinding. I don't know how others do it. Two backgrounds I stay away from are white or black both hurt my head. |

Migraines from reading??
Quote:
Also, when you read my screen shot, did you also get a migraine? Maybe you had the light setting too high. I keep it at 50%. Your mom did right. If one loses all sight in one eye, then one may as well remove the cataract even if their is a risk the Macular could be affected. I can see perfectly through my cataract at near vision but have slight blurring in that eye at long distances. My doctor tells me that, if the cataract is replaced by an IOL, then I would need glasses to read at near vision but would be able to see fine at long distances. Plus, the other eye would have to be operated for an IOL insert to keep both eyes in sync even if the other eye had perfect vision. Thus, for me a cataract operation would mean I would have to wear glasses. Now I do NOT have to wear any glasses for any purpose. Most folks acquire Macular Degeneration as they age. There is no cure for that and, if we get old enough, we will probably go blind and get dementia to boot. There is no way out of aging. Over age 105 almost all folks are in the persistent, vegetative state if they made it that far. At age 115 life expectancy is measured in days or even hours. You really don't know do you about migraines? Oh wow. It has alot to with types of light and colors and how it effects the eyes and I keep my tablets at minimum brightness or I would have a constant headache. Migraine suffers should NEVER read on a black background with light text because the eyes can make out what the background is made of thus confusing itself and causing pain. That's paraphrase but it's horrible. You don't look at blinding lights like LEDs headlights at night. No way I can drive at night. I close my eyes when we are in town so my head doesn't start to hurt. There are many triggers too bright of a LED screen or the wrong background and you will hear people say LCD or LEDs screens give them headaches. That's why it's important to use the lowest setting and thet right colors and fonts. Every eye is different but if you suffer from migraines dark backgrounds is a no no. |
