No. Only for purchase, in order to be able to check geographical restrictions.

The only way to enter this info is to set up a credit card (which you can later remove).

Otherwise, just enter it with each purchase (which is, I admit, sort of a pain).

They charge tax here, but apparently not if sending a gift....

Yes I hate the Tax part only B&N use to do that and now all purchases I get charged Tax on at Kobo.

Well, I'm sure the promo code is great, but after fooling around for almost an hour, trying to find something on my list I could actually buy (it appears I had to go through the whole process of putting in credit card info to get to the point where kobo would tell me I couldn't use the discount code, I gave up.

If there's a way to get a list of stuff in a particular genre or author for which the discount IS usable, it would be fine, but it's just too slow as it is.

You can tell which books are discountable by looking at the price.

If the price is shown for example as:

List price: $14.00
Our price: $9.39
You save: 33% ($4.61)

The book is non-agency and the discount codes will work.

If the price is shown for example as: Price: $12.99

The book is agency and the codes will not work.

That was definitely not true for me, here in the uk, as I mentioned earlier in the thread. I was getting "publisher does not accept coupons" for non-agency books. I can't remember the publishers. I think one of them was Transworld.

The good news is that I did finally find something last night (a non-fiction book from MIT Press).

I guess I should have included that the discounting works as mentioned in the US store (all books I purchased using a discount code showed a "saving" on Kobo regular prices before applying the code).

Transworld is Random House? Funny, because a coupon for them did work for me.
