This has nothing to do with shame, it's more of a "don't be naked in public" sort of thing. Kind of like "use a knife and fork to eat your food" and "don't fart in the elevator" type rules that lets us live with each other. |

I may be too dense to understand the connection of what I said to what you posted, please explain.

But obviously the iTunes Store rating engine found this not to be up to its high moral standards. I am following your reasoning here, and to a point I agree. I think there's far too much sexuality commercialised and especially for the consumption of the youngsters. Take for example Bratz dolls etc. I do not allow my 7 year old daughter to play with them and I tried to explain to her why it's not appropriate. But would I ban selling them? I don't think so. This is what totalitarian regimes do and nothing good comes out of it. Knee jerk reactions are never a good way of dealing with problems. |

Well, Apple let Ulysses back in, and admitted they made a mistake.
http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.co...s-ulysses-ban/ I'm sure this will get as much publicity as the initial ban |

The "don't be nude in public" taboo is created by a cultural sense of shame in nudity. Therefore, what you said was entirely based in shame, but it is so culturally entranced that you don't even notice it and indeed take it as a given.

It's not sustainable of course. They're bleeding developers each and every single time this kind of story breaks. Oh, there will always be crappy devs, but Apple is losing the good ones, outside the few major corporations they're pandering to. Which defines the future shape of the app store, doesn't it.

If apple gets painted as an evil censor of all things hip n' cool I wonder how long the young & hip generation will keep buying their stuff?

I wonder about this assumption. I read that iPads were selling heavily to middle-aged men with about 100k annual income who already own iPhones. I'm going on my own middle-aged memory, so I might be off. Some forum posters seem to hold this stereotype about Apple products, but iPhones and iPods are owned by plenty of unhip, uncool and older people, from what I've seen.
