You're going to save a lot of people some headaches. I hope the guide on nookDevs gets updated with this stuff.

Extra Files

I included a couple more scripts I wrote for adb and the Nook in the attached zip. One is for getting to adb quicker in cmd, and the other batch is for installing multiple packages into the Nook via drag and drop.

One thing I found with rooting the Nook is if you are spending an ungodly amount of time with crashing the browser, you might be crashing it too quickly. I found that waiting 5 or more seconds between each browser crash works wonders.

Help anyone ?

Hi, I have been following the thread with interest. I have a NOOK s/n 1004xxxx s/w 1.5 that I am trying to root. Everything seem OK right to the very end. I get the choice of START ROOTING, REMOVE NOOK ROOT, EXIT

If I select START ROOTING I see the following on the e-Ink screen
Nook rooting utility by Nomad ........
For Firmware 1.4 - 1.5
Adb State: Started
root2.sh execution state not found.

If from the PC I run

ADB Connect .....
ADB Shell

I get connected to the NOOK and can issue an LS command and see the directories, but everytime I issue and adb command I get an adb: not found error.

Any thoughts, it's driving me crazy

adb commands you issue from your host computer not from the shell on the nook.

so a command like:

"adb pull /etc/wifi_stop.sh wifi_stop.sh"

Should be entered exactly like that on the command line of your host computer not in the shell on your nook.

I am glad the batch worked for you, as I had decided to actually look @ my sn to find out that it is 10051 instead of 1011 . However my Nook did come with firmware 1.5 as the default firmware. (I had gotten my Nook re-certified from eBay back in February when B&N listed it for $99).

Also, the rooting batch should be updated in my 2nd post that has an attached zip file.

In spite of the old message warning I'll post this in case anyone cares to give it a try. I used the bat routine to sucessfully get my sn 1010..., f/w 1.5 - upgraded to 1.7 - rooted. I've used the install bat file to load a number of apps - launcher, browser, library, market (not sure about this one), crossword, and a few others - also successfully. I admit it was a bit of experimenting as well as consulting this forum to get some comfort with using the rooted nook. I now can cycle between BN's and rooted's menu screen and am very pleased so far with it and most of the now new and usable apps.

If you still read this, jackr and others whose tips I used, you did good!

I just wanted to thank everyone involved in the web hack AND Jackr's bat scripts. Made all the difference! I managed to root a nook classic with 1.7 today, from all your work. Thank you again!
