Das Buch Der Fürst (italienisch Il Principe) wurde, um 1513 von Niccolò Machiavelli verfasst, postum 1532 publiziert. Es gilt neben den Discorsi als sein Hauptwerk. Teilweise in der Tradition der mittelalterlichen Fürstenspiegel geschrieben, gilt es ebenfalls als eines der ersten – wenn nicht als das erste – Werk der modernen politischen Philosophie. Eine eigene Interpretation entstand im Machiavellismus bzw. Antimachiavellismus.

Obwohl schon 500 Jahre alt, gilt Il principe immer noch als Pflichtlektüre für alle, die sich mit Politik beschäftigen.
