Deal (nook) Buy 2 select titles from B&N, receive $5 gift certificate

B&N are once again running that promotion where in exchange for buying 2 or more books from a selected list, they'll give you a $5 gift certificate towards your next NOOK Book purchase.

This time around, they have 3 lists for you to choose from, including "Spring Reads" (popular and genre fiction), "Spring Forward" (cookbooks & fitness/self-help), "Game Changes" (biography/history and science & business non-fiction). Full details and conditions of the promo are listed on this page here.

(ETA: It looks like you may have to pick your 2 books from just the 1 list, your choice of list. And purchase by the end of April 29th.)

Some good-looking titles in the lot, though these are all non-Agency and you'll probably need to do some price-checking to make sure you're getting the good deals.

For example, Elizabeth Chadwick's To Defy a King is available on Kobo for $2.99 for US persons, and you can use coupons on it.

But if you manage to spot two things you like which are at least the same price at other stores and you can get the extra $5, then it's a good deal.

Fine print doesn't specify method of payment (just says you need a properly placed order with a valid method of payment with sufficient funds, which presumably includes one's gift card balance, provided one has the requisite valid credit card on file for DRM purposes).

Offer also only valid 1 time per B&N account, purchases placed between April 14th & 29th (actually sometime in the AM on the 30th, but best to get them in before then).

And actually, it looks like you have to pick 2 books from one collection, so I'll edit that into the OP, just in case.

Several titles are priced at $15.99. Does anyone else think that's high for indie published titles? Amazon sells them well under $10.

For Indie, yes. Most on the sale are not Indie, though, but non-Agency publishers.

Might not be any Indie, but I didn't look that close.

Perhaps, B&N inflated prices for the promotion. I checked about a dozen of them and they were all less expensive at Amazon. Some were only $5-8. That's more reasonable for small/mid publishers.

This is pretty typical of pricing at B&N, sadly.

Books a million and Sony, too, just as with Borders before they failed. It's one reason they all loved agency pricing (but failed to understand the concept of scaling up sales by several order of magnitude by pricing where books aren't just for the wealthy).
