I'm not focusing on free ebooks. As I said before, I've bought more than 30 books through Kobo and I have about 25 more on my wish list - and they all have epub. In my experience, the only books I've encountered without epub are public domain. Through the links here, people have shown that books without epub do exist - I'm not contesting that. But it seems that those books are in the minority and I have no problem avoiding that small percentage. Why get all upset? Just don't buy them. *shrug*

I'm not getting upset, I'm simply trying to inform others of the issue - you're clouding the topic with references to books that don't have the issue!

Yes, I have, more or less by accident when I sync'd after copying an epub I had bought from Kobo. It showed both copies separately. That was with the original software, the upgrade cleaned it up and I haven't re-sync'd since, so only the epub versions with no cover art are showing now. I shall have to try that out. Back in a bit... |

I still agree that this is an important issue.
Even though it is relatively rare or that the book that was used as an example is too expensive for everyone to want to buy it still means that you need to check that the book you are buying is available in ePub before you purchase it if that's what you want. ficbot was offered a "one time refund" and told to read the fine print. I am one person who didn't even know that particular bit of fine print was there until mylesau pointed it out. I thought that ALL the books were available in ePub. I was wrong and I'm sure I'm not alone. |

There used to be a search option that allowed you to pick ePub as the format so whatever search results you had were eBook available in ePub.
It seems that Kobo's site has taken the good things it used to have and done away with them. They really need to redo the site from the ground up. |

I would still buy that book if I could get it in epub, too. This is a lost sale for them The book was by Irene Nemirovsky, a popular French writer. She was killed in World War 2 and this lost novel was discovered posthumously by her daughter (or grand-daughter, I don't remember) and edited for publication. It got a lot of press here and I was very interested to read it. So, to the Kobo techie who is apparently reading this thread and posted above, get cracking on the epub and you'll get a sale. No epub, no sale...

Just bought Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. No option to download the epub file.

It should still appear in your website library and work with the desktop application for loading onto the Kobo through sync.

It does yes, but the Kobo app is nonsense. I hate the way the formatting is hijacked by Kobo. Plus, in this case, there's an error on one of the pages (a red notification box appears in lieu of what should be there). I'd much rather have the epub.
