Issue Editing MetaData in "Series" Field

When I'm editing meta-data in calibre, I noticed that whatever I have written in the “series” line is preceded by “Book I of” in the spec column for the book on the right of the screen. It does this when I'm listing book 2, 3, etc- but when I look back at the meta-data field, this “Book I of” isn't in the field; just what I wrote. Because of this, I think it's putting my books out of order- in a trilogy for example, each book is listed in alphabetical order rather than the trilogy order, since the meta-data starts all of them with “Book 1 of”.

Does anyone know how I can edit out the “Book I of” that appears in every series' meta-data?

I've included screen shots to show what I mean:

Screenshot 1a- shows the spec column that says “book 1 info” before my own series text
Screenshot 1b- shows the “edit metadata” screen/box, and the “book I info” is not in the series field, so I don't know how to remove it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not really tech-savvy, and fairly new to Calibre, so if possible, please put any suggestions in layman’s terms for me (sorry).

- One last thing: a few days ago, when I launched calibre it said there was a new update, so I followed the prompts to install it (0.9.8). When I restarted my laptop, it gave me the same update notice; and it's still doing it today. I'm going to re-update it, but i'm positive I did the first time, so I don't know if this might be related to to the issues I'm having or not, but just wanted to put that out there.

@slammerkin

Using light blue as the text colour on the boards blue wash background makes your post hard to read

Posting large images inline makes it even harder, because many of us have to scroll sideways.

The board has its own attachment feature - personally I think its better to use it rather than an external host like Photobucket

Now to your question regarding Series

I would take the book number out of the Series name - ie make it "Romanov Trilogy". Then I would adjust the Number field to the right of Series in the Metadata Edit screen

I would check the Author Sort field in Metadata Edit for The Kitchen Boy... book, as I suspect its not "Alexander, Robert" - a'la Romanov Bride.

And if you're still having trouble with the 0.9.8 install I suggest you post the issue as a new thread in the main Calibre thread.

Hope this helps - BR

You should not be writing the book number in the series name box just beside the series box is the number that where you should use. The way you are doing it calibre will read as "romanav book 1" and "romanav book 2" as different series

If you properly filled in the series and series index (see attached) then the Book Details panel would show the correct book number. You have the index for that book as 1 so it shows up as book 1 in the book details panel. Also you might want to remove the parenthesis from your series names.

You can't edit this out it is a feature of the book details. You can remove the series info from the book details panel by going to Preferences - Look and Feel - Book details tab and unchecking the appropriate box.

I'm guessing you followed the steps to download the update. Once downloaded you have to run the file to install the update.

You make an excellent point if the series name includes the number then you end up with all your series being only one book long.

@slammerkin the series name needs to be exactly the same for every book in the series, you must remove the numbers from this field. Update the Number field to reflect your book numbers.

Good reading.

@DopedAngel-
Ah, that was it. For some reason I didn't even look at those 3 fields to the right- the top two were in green, so i just assumed they were something Calibre used, and not for me. Being new to Calibre, I have a habit of being afraid to touch anything I'm not sure about. In retrospect, that was pretty cut and dry; I don't know how i missed it, but thank you so much for clearing it up. And thank you for being so nice about it.
