Sorry, just got time to try this out.
There were some issues with file system permissions on older versions of the plugin, make sure to update to the next version. This weekend I did notice some issues with calibre not noticing new books if calibre is open while adding the books. But I haven't had time to sit down and try all the variations. Are you still getting zero length files? |

The latest calibre fixes the not-noticing-new-book issue...

Now, about windows...
Just added this to my windows (XP, SP2, Firefox 3.5.3) laptop, and it doesn't
seem to work. Creates the xhtml file (and I was able to convert *that* via Sigil), but it never seems to do the conversion - just a zero length .epub file. Just like what I was seeing in Linux before I fixed the paths (but they're correct, this time.) The test page was http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/08...k_sony_reader/ in print page (one page) mode. (That what got me started on this, actually.) |

Huh???
OK, now I'm getting frustrated.
As of Monday, this was working on my Ubuntu 9.04 (AMD64) laptop. As of today, trying to convert any page, or section of a page, causes Firefox (3.5.2) to segfault and die immediately. Just select create ebook, hit OK, and poof, no more firefox. Say what?? |

Hmm, that's annoying to say the least. If you bring up the Tools -> Error Console do you see any related exceptions?
One thing to try, on the Bookit Preferences, Advanced Panel, set the logging level to Information and uncheck the Enable Threading option. See if anything changes. I'm tied up the new couple days with work, but will try to reproduce it. |

FYI, I've been able to reproduce it on Windows 7. It seems to be a threading issue, if you disable threading on the advanced preferences page it seems to work. Firefox will now block and you won't get updates on the jobs window, but you can create ebooks.
I'm also looking at the sizing issue of the preferences dialog. From googling I can find a lot of folks complaining about the issue, but not a lot of solutions. If the size prevents you from getting to a page, click on the icon bar and use the right/left arrow keys to changes the focused tab. |

See my last post, it appears to be a threading bug. It doesn't appear to happen on all boxes. I'll look into tonight and tomorrow.

Ok, I'll keep debugging. There's no errors, so it may take a while to narrow it down.

Some more...
I will add that it at least tries on Windows now with threading turned off, but my last page failed to convert - and that's all I know. The errorlog in Firefox just says it's converting, tells me where the working directory is (true), tells me where it's log is (a lie - there's no log at all). Then it goes away for a L-O-N-G time (> 10 mins, on a single page.) (The xhtml page is 12Kbytes.) And fails.
Hmmm, and on Linux... When I went to try it last night, Firefox stayed up (yay), the page didn't convert (boo.) Brought up the errorlog, nothing interesting, tried it a couple of other pages, failed. Tried it ona selection, worked. (Ahah.) Tried it on the same pages that earlier failed, they now work. I just hate bugs like that. (Oh, and this was the same machine, no new software, no reboots, nothing.) |

short update
since the last update BookIt seems to work fine (mostly)!
it is lightning fast now. I get an error message and 0 byte files for this page, but all other pages I've tried, including text selected on chinese news sites (yay!) works without problems. BookIt still doesn't seem to download images, though... Thanks for your great work, BeoWulf! jo. PS: Here's the error log I got from the SPIEGEL page: "/usr/bin/web2disk" -r 0 --delay=0 -d "/Users/jo/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/bookit-work" -n 10 "http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/zwiebelfisch/0,1518,druck-632042,00.html" .
