Sorry to ignore your question! I can only think of one way to pronounce it: ku (u as it "put" or oo as "book") - shun

How do YOU pronounce it? Or what's the other way to pronounce it?

i am reading tom clancy`s patriot games and the the pilot said that the no smoking sign is lighted, but i would say that the sign is lit.
i have noticed that in other books too.
what would be the proper way to say that sentence?

Lit, or alight ... (though arguably the latter would be aflame!!)

Maybe that usage has changed since the Tom Clancy books were written?

As I recall a light is lit but a cigarette is lighted. Or at least that was what I was told in my youth although it doesn't seem any more proper that a picture being hung but a person being hanged.

Maybe big Tom used lighted since it was a no smoking sign.

I've heard the term "lit cigarette" lots of times. I realize that people are "hanged" .... but around here they do say "they hung him." Then, I've also heard the phrase "he was hung" ... but I suspect that's in a different context.
