Landscape Format
Im new at E-publishing and my existing paper book is wider than it is tall. This is because a continuous diagram (timeline) runs along the bottom of the pages. The diagrams are sequential so I dont want them divided into lots of little ones on numerous portrait pages.
I would like to create the e-book in landscape with 2 columns for the text and a single long diagram traversing the columns at the bottom. Every page would follow this basic format. I hope to create it using HTML. Will my idea work in an epub environment? Comments please. |

It's perhaps worth noting that the ePub 2 standard (which the overwhelming majority of current devices still support) does not support two-column text (ie a layout where the text flows from one column to the next).

I think that by default Kindle devices enable pages to flip, so this ought to work out okay UNLESS the owner has changed that option, as I have done. I hold my Fire tablet vertically, of course, so that a landscape orientation would be shrunk to the width of the screen, hence be difficult or impossible to read. I hope but don't know that I would remember how to go back to the default setting, so that if I turned the tablet 90 degrees it would fill out the landscaped screen.
(I know we're not talking epubs here, but I regularly go from one to the other.) |
