M92, serious problem with .epub

Hi all,

with my M92, I discovered a new problem (see the RSS thread for the other).

I use Instapaper to save article for reading them later. This is a convenient tool, that turns the saved pages into .epubs. The problem: my M92 cannot read the .epub properly.

Specifically, I tried to turn saved blog post of the blog Buttonwood at The Economist into an epub, and read it on my M92. The problem was that some pages were missing. Even when I used the mosaic view, and looked at 4 pages at once, the pages were 3, 9, 10, 14. And whatever I tried, there was no way I could get to page 4 or 11. Looking at the ebook in calibre shows that it is not a problem of Instapaper or the file. It works perfectly, except on the M92.

Is that a common problem?

As far I can see you are new here. First of all, please dont start a new thread by every discovered issue. We have specialised threads for it, which are monitored. Secondly, EPUBs can be read with three apps on M92. Which app did you try?

Booxtor, it came to my mind, it would be better instead of one thread about firmware to have a sticky bug list for each firmware, say last two firmwares and each in separate thread. The first message might be the same as now in Firmware, etc ... thread. Only the download link would lead to particular version of firmware. Maybe to add link to Wiki.

And possibly the same with wish list, suggestions, etc. Also possibly with link to apropriete Wiki page.

The older users, are able to keep track, but I am affraid the new ones might get lost... 40+ pages without knowledge to which version of firmware particular message is refering to and if the issue still persists or not... If the wish was fulfilled later on or not.

Simply, to my opinion, it might be very difficult to find out what is current state for given or latest firmware.

It would help potential buyers to decide whether the reader fulfils his/her needs to acceptable level.

M92 is the best stuff IMO. So, good luck!

Booxtor, I am sorry if I have not acted according to forum rules here. I searched the forum for RSS and this new epub problem, but didn't find any thread (what I found was many "I just bought a M92, my review" threads, which is fine as far as it goes, but you don't need 20 of them).

Regarding my .epub, I just clicked on them in the internal drive, or on the SD card. I cannot seem to find other apps to open them, and there is nothing in the manual.

Maybe you could, if you have time for that at all, write a sticky thread on top about "issues that are not in the manual, but every M92 user should know", a sort of FAQ. If there are 3 apps to read .epubs, but they are not immediately obvious for newbies, this question might come up more often. But I understand if you don't have the time. I can start writing what I have learned into a PM and send it to you, as a sort of start of an FAQ, if you like.

In any case, Booxtor, thanks for your help. You are one reason I bought the M92 in the first place, since people were very positive about your support. I cannot emphasize that enough.

There are Wiki pages addressing workarounds, how to, buglist, wishlist, etc.

Concerning your issue. It is possible to select the reader for e-pub and some other formats. It is somewhere in settings. I guess it will be also described in manual.

One does not choose which reader to use at the moment of openning the document. Instead, prefered reader for docs being open may be set in advance (in settings).

Oh boy, that's embarrassing...

I found the reader settings, and it works with CoolReader. I must have missed that in the manual. Thanks so much!

I will have a look at the wiki page right away.
