any way to store multiple covers
or at least the previous one ( like with the original_Xxxx book options ) ?
I have been experimenting with resize cover plug in, but there is no obvious way back to what the cover used to be if you forget the previous dimensions/can no longer find an online version for download does the database rely on seeing a file name of cover.jpg in the book folder, if so could I simply keep copy-of.... .jpg files in the library without confusing it |

calibre always uses the file named cover.jpg, you can store as many backups named differently as you like.

good to know thanks.
any chance that when you drop a cover picture onto an existing book cover ( =paste cover action ?) then a backup could be auto-created ( in some future release ) |

I have often thought it would be nice to have a supported way to store the back cover (and possibly insert it at the front of the book after the front cover). The back cover of many books has useful information about the book.
Whether there could be any way of extending this to support alternative front covers I am not sure - it would also be a nice feature. |

If you find a back cover image and you put it in the book folder as say backcover.jpg and then you move the book to a different library or you rename the book etc then the file will be gone.
Also Check Library will report it in the Unknown files in books section. You could put it elsewhere and insert a link to the image into Comments - but a subsequent download of metadata that included Comments would lose the link - although you wont lose the image itself. If you put a link to it in a custom comments column you shouldn't inadvertently lose it. BR |

As BetterRed points out, if you move a book to a different folder all unknown file types are gone. This means that "cover.jpeg", "cover.bmp", "cover-1.jpg" are gone. I learned this the hard way. |

If you use jpg and jpeg, you can probably have two images, as both are valid jpg exensions. You can add a bmp, png, gif, whatever you like. Even .lnk and .url -- BetterRed knows all about this. Using fake extensions like .jpg1 .jpg2 will also get tracked, but those extensions won't be recognized when you try to open them. You'll need to rename or associate the extension manually. The rule is, one of each file extension per book record can be added into the database. And then calibre will track it. |

But it would be irresponsible of me not to acknowledge the possibility. re: the file handlers not being happy. Well, as linux users that's not such a problem for us! So I don't have to worry, which is the important thing. Just joking. I have a linux installer for everyone... |
