Patterson tops UK library lending list

Interesting results from the most recent report by the UK's "Public Lending Right" - that's the body in the UK which gathers statistics on books borrowed from public libraries, and pays authors according to the numbers of loans. An author gets paid about 6p (slightly under US 10c) every time a book is borrowed, up to a maximum of £6,600 a year (roughly US$10,000).

The author topping the list for the period June 2007 to June 2008 was US crime writer James Patterson, for the second year in a row. The most borrowed book was J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

The "top 10" author list is:

1. James Patterson
2. Dame Jacqueline Wilson
3. Daisy Meadows
4. Nora Roberts
5. Francesca Simon
6. Mick Inkpen
7. Josephine Cox
8. Danielle Steel
9. Janet & Allan Ahlberg
10. Ian Whybrow

I think they're all childrens' authors. Isn't "Inkpen" a wonderful name for an author? According to the Wikipedia article about him, it appears to be his real name, too!

Yep, I Googled them to reassure myself.

Quite encouraging really, shows that the nippers are reading - and not just Potter books.
