Uninstall Jailbreak?

Short context - my battery is broken (it's draining in 2 days without even using the Kindle; WiFi is off) and I want to send it to Amazon. It's on version 5.7.2 . Is there a way to uninstall the certificate of the jailbreak? I'm afraid that Amazon will check it for warranty reasons.

Run the uninstaller package included with the jailbreak that you installed.

Where is the uninstaller? I just downloaded both zips and one only has
a few website frames the other one (hotfix) doesn't have anything like an uninstaller?

What "both zips" did you download? Perhaps 5.6.5.

I would SSH in and manually uninstall any upstart script along with the jailbreak key.

Or more simply, do a factory reset and install another firmware update from amazon (to reinstall a fresh rootfs).

From the first sticky post ("5.6.5 Jailbreak (closed-kindle) -- released!") - thats how I installed the jailbreak.

So the install and the hotfix zip. But there is no uninstaller?

Read my edits above. Factory reset and do a firmware update to reinstall a fresh root filesystem.

So a reset and an update will delete the certificate? But why did the jb survive after updating from 5.6.5 to 5.7.2?

Anyway, will try this, thanks!

Because an update does not delete stuff.
A factory reset pretty much erases everything and starts fresh.

Oh and might I recommend next time wait until you are sure you don't want to return it before doing anything to it.

Thanks for the advise but 6 months ago I didn't know the Kindle will be broken ;P

Again thank you all! If necessary the thread can be closed.

You are welcome.
Good luck with Amazon.
Thread will probably be left open for others with the same question.

A factory reset restores default user data and private data storage (including the jailbreak bridge which survives firmware updates if not erased). A firmware update then restores a default root filesystem (where the jailbreak and MKK reside). You need to do both in that order to completely remove everything.

It would be possible to create an uninstaller to do this for you, but the two steps work fine when done together as described.

Because you did not destroy the 'survival code' with a reset immediately before the update.

Also, you probably shouldn't be afraid Amazon will check for the jailbreak certificate. It would cost more money to properly check every return than to just toss them in the to-be-recycled bin.

At least, no one has ever reported getting a warranty return denied, despite a number of people returning jailbroken Kindles to Amazon.

...

Do not leave an active Screensavers hack on, though. That is a very superficially noticeable jailbreak indicator.
