Unhappy Calibre will not recognise (Sony PRS 650)
Hi Guys
Happy ebook reader here ... but ..... suddenly calibre has stopped recognising my Sony PRS 650

Windows 7 still sees it
Sony Plugin active
Can see it as a folder
but wont pop up on toolbar

Have upgraded sony firmware, have latest calibre

Version: 0.8.59

When you plug in your 650 to the USB on the computer, do you see a removable drive?

If not, try a different USB port, different cable or even a different computer.

In the debug mode I cant see the sony plug in despite it being green and enabled in calibre

According to that line

DriveError: No removable drives found

your sony is not being detected by windows. It has to be assigned a drive letter by windows before calibre can connect to it.

Hi Kovid
Thanks for all you work on calibre - a superb programme
Windows is actually giving my device a drive letter
In my computer the sony is showing up as drive F and the sd card as drive H.
I can access both and get content - i can also find them from the calibre toold bar if I use the folder option and can load books onto them from calibre is this fashion.
Its the automatic recognition that seems AWOL

I dont know what to tell you. According to that debug output, windows is telling calibre there are no removable drives connected.

Yep = got me scratching my head as well!!!!
Just going to look at my wpd drivers and maybe reinstall calibre....?
got me beat.
In that debug report I cant see any sony plug in - is that an issue?

Well - uninstalled 8.59 and reinstalled 8.58 and now its working like a charm
recognised my reader in about 20 seconds......
go figure....
Test will be tomorrow - I will update and see what happens - its 2.10 am here and time for some ZZZZ

There haven't been any changes to the code that detects devices in 59. Most likely if you update again, reboot your computer, 59 will also work.

i reinstalled 59 - cant recognise my ebook again ......
sorry - forgot run debug
removed and reinstalled 58 - problem solved
not sure whats going on but will use 58 now for a while

Having the same problem
Just wanted to add that I too, am having a problem with 8.59 thru 8.61. At first I had thought that it was my reader because I just bought a newer one. I had a prs-600 and right at the point 8.59 came out I bought a prs-900. When I hooked up the new reader Calibre didn't see it. I then assumed it was the reader. I've tried everything to get it hooked up, but nothing worked. Today I hooked up my old 600 reader and still Calibre didn't see it. That's when I started to look in to the Forums and found this thread.
