No, it did not. That was maybe (the test case did work but no statement from Bookeen that they have fixed it) fixed in 685.

Your test cases, however, indicate that it has been fixed, do they not? I don't think that the 685 release note was intended to detail the minutiae of precisely what had been fixed, and more than, say, new releases of "iTunes" say any more than the rather laconic notation "bug fixes".

Wider question to forum members - has anyone had the problem of a word that they can see is present in a dictionary not being found in firmware v685?

Some evidence but only Bookeen can tell us about it. Maybe the bug was something totally different and the observation was just a side effect?

Mine came with the 674, and yes the page turning was almost instantaneous. The 2 positives, for me, are well worth the upgrade to 685.

Urgent -

Apparently the latest Gen3's can no longer be rolled back to 538.

I tried to do so and it didn't work.(Longer description here)

I had to retourn my CyBook because of the screen problem I told in the "Have you had any problems.." thread, and the Italian reseller sent me a new model in replacement (512mb); firmware is 1.0 built 681

page turn button is more responsive than with 538, sometimes tooo much responsive, but it could be simply a hardware improvement; browsing is way faster.
I can't compare battery life yet because it arrived today and it's still charging.
