problem with calibre library

I downloaded latest version 7.1 i think but now it does not connect to my sony reader says something about location. Looking at the calibre site it may be that I had the old version and did not uninstall first. What do I do to correct this.

uninstall. delete c:\Program Files\calibre and c:\Program Files\calibre2. reinstall

Tired uninstalling there was only one calibre there which i uninstalled then reinstalled but same problem this is what it says

Sorry but where do I find this on the reader not very technical. Would I be better off trying to install and earlier version of calibre?

Sorry but the reader does not have a search so I am unsure how to find it. I am sorry I upgraded at all now cos I can't seem to get it working. Have tried uninstalling again but no luck.

When your reader is connected via USB, you should be able to see it as a drive letter in windows? (I have a kindle not a sony, but assume they will act the same.) So from "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" or whatever, just browse to the drive letter assigned to your sony and look for the media.xml file. So if your Sony is assigned as drive letter e, look in e:\database\cache for media.xml and delete.

Post the file as an attachment, not just the first line.

You still have not posted the contents of the media.xml file (only the first line which is not much use). The suspicion is the media.xml file ahs got corrupted somehow, and seeing its contents might help figure out how. In the worst case it can be deleted and then it will be rebuilt when the Sony is disconnected from the USB>

The latest release of Calibre is working fine for other people, so we need some help in trying to figure out why you are having a problem.

That file looks OK. Looking at your error message in more detail, it seems like it is being triggered by trying to send a specific book, can you confirm that? Also, please update to 0.7.13 as there have been many fixes to the sony driver since 0.7.1

Ok have downloaded the latest version and tried again but same thing. It communicates with device and device appears but then tries to get list of books from device which takes over 7 mins and then comes up with error communicating with device and the following message:

I cannot see what is on the reader or the storage card. It is not down to a particular book and as I said it works on my sons computer which has an earlier version.
