Do you mean the nook subscription is the DRM-free ePub?

I think that's what others in this thread have said, unless I've got mixed up.

I haven't bought from either place yet.

Ah. I see I missed a vital word or two from my post. Now edited so that it makes sense.

Thanks. If Nook for PC works (for me) under wine on my Linux box, I won't need to pry the tablet out of my wife's hands... but it's nice to know of another route.

Things should not be this difficult!

Ah, the Nook store doesn't seem to offer back issues; nor does the Kindle store or Zinio.

I was waiting to see if my Fictionwise library showed up before purchasing the January issue. At the moment it looks as though the only way I can get it in the UK seems to be via the DRM PDF version of the Magzter store (which also seems to be the iPad version).

Oh, well better get it there before it disappears, I guess.

Well, I subscribed to Asimov's at Nook UK. The February issue came through to my Nexus 7 immediately and was readable in the Nook app, and downloadable, etc.

But the March issue appeared today, but with a message that:

"This title cannot be viewed on this device."

And there's no way to download it. It also doesn't appear in my account on the web page.

I've raised a call to customer services, but is anyone else having the same problem?

I can't believe that folks are wiling to pay in order to endure such frustration.
Cancel your subs, tell their customer services why, and what they need to do to get your custom back, then get from *other* sources until they come to their senses.
Seems like only a boycott will get their attention.
If the authors represented are in blissful ignorance, look for a way to message them also.

I just downloaded both Analog April 2013 and Asimov's March 2013 on my Nexus 7 and opened both on the Sony Reader app, so they're both still DRM free.

Good to hear. March 2013 still won't work for me. I was on a phone call for 40 minutes with customer services last night, uninstalling, etc. At one point I was told that it was probably because it was only January and this was the March issue...

It might be a difference between the US and UK site.

I was shocked to see that I might have missed the Feb Asimov's and March Analog. So I signed up for a trial subscription at Amazon.

Only to find that neither subscription will work with my iPhone. A chat conversation with technical support confirmed that Analog and Asimov's are only available for Kindle on iPad or iPod Touch and nothing else not even Kindle on iPhone.

Chat in spoilers:
Spoiler:
You are now connected to Raj Kumar from Amazon.co.uk.
Me:Yesterday I ordered subscriptions for Asimov's Science Fiction and Analog Science Fiction and Fact magazine. Unfortunately, I mistakenly selected my old iPod Touch for the delivery device instead of my current iPhone. So I got in touch with customer support, who deleted my old iPod device and said they'd switch the subscription to my new device, and manually sent the most recent issue.
I do have one of the magazines on my iPhone. I think I must have accidentally cancelled the download of the other.
But in my account page "Subscription Settings" both subscriptions are showing "No valid devices found for subscriptions", and in my "Your Kindle Library" page, the action buttons next to the subscription only show "Cancel Subscription".
I hope that you can arrange it so that my subscriptions are now to my iPhone, so that I can download the current and previous issues.
Raj Kumar:Hello, my name is Raj. I'll be happy to help you today.
Me:Hi Raj. My first post explains ecerything, I hope, so I'll wait while you read and check.
Raj Kumar:Thanks for waiting.
Me:If you have any questions, do ask. I'll wait while you investigate.
Raj Kumar:I've resent the latest issue to your Iphone.
Please check and let me know.
Me:It looks like it's trying to sync at the moment. I have the Analog (April 2013) but not the Asimovs (March 2013). It's still got the sync icon going at the moment.
The sync icon (rotating circle of dots) stopped with no Asimov's, so I quite the Kindle app and restarted it. It's going again now.
No, sync has stopped (and there's doesn't seem to be a manual "sync now" button. But it's not really getting the current issue immediately that's worrying me.
It's that my subscription settings aren't showing my iphone as a subscription device for Asimov's and Analog
But my iPhone is the device for my Fantasy and Science Fiction subscription (which I've had for quite some time now.)
If we could get my subscription settings sorted out, I should be able to send the issue manually to my iPhone myself.
Raj Kumar:Ok.
A member of our Kindle Specialist team will need to help you with this. Please hold while I transfer you. One of our Kindle representatives will assist you shortly.
Me:Thank you.
A Customer Service Associate will be with you in a moment.
You are now connected to Sravanthi from Amazon.co.uk.
Me:Hi Sravanthi, Can you see the previous chat text?
Sravanthi:Hello, I will be happy to help you today. Please wait while I go through your previous conversation.
Me:Thanks. I'll wait.
Sravanthi:I'm sorry to inform you that Asimov's Science Fiction is available only for:
Kindle for iPad (Version 2.9 or later)
Kindle for iPod Touch
Hence, you will not be able to download it on your iPhone.
Me:How extraordinary! Unfortunately, I don't have either of those devices at the moment.
Is it possible to cancel by trail subscriptions such that if I do get one of those devices in the future
I will still be able to sign up for a trial subscription?
Sravanthi:lease note that our free 14 day trial period for Kindle subscriptions is limited to once per customer and once cancelled, cannot be renewed.
Please*
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Me:Oh dear.
Could you raise the issue of availbility on iPhone with whoever's responsible for that?
It seems very odd that it should be available on iPod Touch but not on iPhone.
Sravanthi:Sure. I'll forward your comments to the Kindle Development team. We are working hard with the publishers to make the Kindle content available on more devices.
Me:Thanks. Does the same apply to the Analog subscription? I suspect it does.
Sravanthi:Yes. It does. You can check the compatibility on the product details page under "Available on these devices" section.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Analog-Scien...8676807&sr=1-1
Me:Thanks. I'm afraid it never occurred to me that the subscriptions would be so limited, so I didn't check.
Well, I think that's answered all my questions. Thank you for your help.
Sravanthi:You're welcome. Thanks for visiting Amazon.co.uk. Have a nice day.
Me:Bye.
Sravanthi:Bye.

In the course of a telephone chat yesterday, a support chap did try manually sending the latest issue, and I did receive April Analog on my iPhone, so I can confirm that the Amazon issue do have DRM applied.

Off to B&N, I think!

Subscribed at B&N. Only current issues there. At Amazon you can also download the previous two issues.... IF you have an iPad or iPod Touch!

But then, of course, there's the DRM. Which I don't think can be removed for files on an iOS device. Grrrrr.

Of course, I don't actually have any of the devices mentioned at B&N either. But luckily I have managed to get the issues downloaded to nook for Mac, although to launch nook for Mac, I have to make sure I hold down the option key at launch or it freezes. Sigh.

Hey - I've found my old iPod touch! Perhaps I can resurrect it.

My old iPod touch works! And I have the issues. Unfortunately, the tools don't seem to work with iOS devices anymore. Sigh2.

This is all a lot of hassle for what should be something very simple!

Barnes and Noble also wanted me to phone back every few days to see if there'd been any progress. They can't 'send out emails' apparently.

I can't try getting the March 2013 issue through Nook for PC, unfortunately, as I've just installed that and it's only for the US .com accounts.

To give Magzter credit, DRM-laden PDF it may be, but the January issue was delivered seamlessly.

I'm not sure how B&N handle back issues long term, but all the issues since the beginning of the year (when I started my subscriptions) show as available. As you say, I'm on the US site.
