Transferring "Real Page Numbers"

I'm looking for a thread that will walk me through how to maintain the "real page numbers" from kindle books.

Thanks so much.

Download them from Amazon, and the page number file will come with it.

Hi, thanks for your response. Although I don't think you understand my question. I know how to download my purchased books from Amazon.

My question is, when I convert an original kindle book from Calibre to any other format, the "real page numbers" disappear. I would like to know if there's any way to keep the page numbers when converting a book in Calibre.

Thanks,

The "real page numbers" are stored both as page targets in the .mobi file and in a separate .apnx file, which might have been generated from either pagelists or pagemaps in the original ePubs. (Example files are in this thread.)

AFAIK, Calibre cannot convert .mobi books with .apnx files to .ePubs with pagelists or pagemaps. However, the latest experimental Kindleunpack version should be able to reverse-engineer the original ePub file, including a pagemap, if the .mobi book hasn't already been processed with Calibre.

For more information, see the Kindleunpack thread.
