The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference

I am having problems with one specific validation error:

"The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference"

Can anyone tell me what this means and what I should look at correcting in my source file to eliminate the error?

I suppose folks here might be able to help but they would have to guess what your trying to validate. I'm guessing you're referring to an ePub, in which case you might have better luck in the ePub forum.

don't have stand alone ampersands in your input file

In your source, you probably have the ampersand character '&' on it's own. in (x)html the & character signifies the start of a character entity like   (non-breaking space).

In your (x)htrml source, or epub, you should replace all instances of '&' that are not part of an html entity with the & entity.
