Unhappy Nand chip problem?

For a while my eReader v3 has occasionally be giving me an error message when I switched it on:

Quote:VERSION: 1.0.4 2007-09-05
Current Frequency is 100
Nand chip not recognised
Checking Sim Card
SIM CARD NOT EXIST
...

Normally using the reset button fixed the problem, but now it won't display anything else. Reflashing the firmware doesn't help either. Does my eReader need to go back for repairs? I've only had it just over a month!

(I've posted this in jinke's own forums - will let you know if I get a response there too!)

Yes, looks like a hardware problem.

That has never happened to me either. It definately sounds like hardware defect.

I haven't seen this error before either.

You can access your sim card if you remove the battery cover and battery.

I suggest you remove and replace the sim card to check its seated correctly.

THE problem is here: "Nand chip not recognised"

SIM cards are not installed by default in V3 readers.

My HanLin V3 came with a pre-installed sim card, direct from Jinke. I just had to install the battery myself.

And I've got lBook V3 (the same hardware as Hanlin) without sim card at all. I suppose your will function just fine without it.

I suspect that SIM is there for DRM support. Either way, you don't need it.

Interesting that lBooks don't come with sim cards installed.

I think you're both right, dottedmag and iterati. I took the sim card out and the only difference I can see is that my HanLin started with the instructions document open in landscape view, rather than the usual contentlister menu.

I don't have any DRM books on my HanLin, though.

Sorry, I forgot to post an update. I did send my eReader back and got a replacement. It was a hardware fault - there isn't supposed to be a sim card or anything like that!

All working 100% now
