Metadata editing
I am new to Calibre but have used EPub Metadata Editor before. I read books on my Android phone using either FBreader, Moon + or Go Books (just kicking some tires).
My problem is this, no matter what editor I use sometimes the Metadata is shown to have changed sometimes not, definitely not consistent. I have several James Patterson books from different sources so I wanted to clean them up. Using Calibre I went through the files and for example many had a co-author, I removed the co-author and would show Patterson as the sole author. Once it was saved I figured the co-author was permanently gone from the metadata. But, in FBreader sometimes the co-author would show up as the main author with no record of Patterson as the author, the same file would show up as Patterson being the main author or maybe co-authored but it was never consistent. I would then open the file in EPub Metadata Editor and lo and behold the coauthor would still be there on some but not all. Is there something I am missing? Is there a way to edit the metadata so that its consistent? Any help would be appreciated. Malcolm |

The metadata editor in calibre is not actually changing the books. It is maintaining the libraries database. To do this, do a conversion using epub as both the input and output. There is also the "Modify ePub" plugin that has an option to do this.

That's not entirely correct. As you say, the metadata editor is changing the data only in Calibre's database, but the changed metadata WILL get written back to the book when you do either a "Send to Device", or a "Save to Disk". There's no need to do a conversion.

Thanks fellas, saving to disk seems to work.
