Exactly! While from you, dear dreams, I learned only beautiful, heart warming and useful things! And that's the truth

You see. You are not the only one to remember.
Given their age, they could have seen it also, but remembering ... that's another story.

I think we should read a modern classic instead of an old moldy classic.

A modern classic is a book that we think will stand the test of time.

I agree. And the absolute best is the one that has not been written yet! Untouched by corrupting human eyes. The book of the future.

I can list some modern books that I think will stand the test of time - whether I think they should is a slightly different matter.

Jon just wants to nominate Terry Pratchett...

Are you reading "The Egg and I" Jon?

I'm on page 60 or so..

Me too. It is cute. I hope to finish it by tomorrow.

I did not want to be rude with JSWolf. It is just that the idea of a future classic turned me on. Terry Pratchett is fine with me, maybe everybody should read him. That is one common criterion for a classic according to some publishers.

Frankly, I think we should limit it to books that are in the public domain. If they are in the PD and still popular and published today then I would say it is a classic.

According to dictionary.com, one of the definitions of classic is...

Quote:
an author or a literary work of the first rank, esp. one of demonstrably enduring quality.
And there are lots of books that would have that as the definition that are not 50-70 years or more old.

That's almost as good a definition as any.
