importing metadata into custom columns

Hi,

I've created some custom columns, and I'm trying to figure out how to set up the metadata tags in my epubs so that these custom columns are populated when the epub is added into calibre. I've got an integer field, a date field and a yes/no field that I'm trying to populate, I'm not sure if that makes a difference to the formatting required.

Examples of what I've tried so far:

<meta name="calibre:#integerfield" content="12345"/>

<meta name="calibre:user_metadata:#integerfield" content="12345"/>

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Those fields are not simple text, they're JSON encoded, look at the opf generated by calibre in the directory of a book with some custom columns.

Just fill in those fields for an epub in your library, save it out (Save to Disk) and explode the ebook - then look at the content.opf file for the saved epub format.

I have a question on this same subject: is it possible to automatically redirect metadata into custom columns when downloading them from selected sources? e.g. I would like to collect Google's tags in a separate custom column ( <meta name="calibre:user_metadata:#googletags"> ); is there a way to edit a rule OR to "tweak" something in order to get this result?
Thanks!
