I suppose stranger things have happened...
My wife, who is in the other room watching The View on TV, just informed me that Whoopi Goldberg was given the first ever brand new Kindle reader, the "Kindle 3D". I asked her if she had misheard, were they speaking of a Kindle 3G, or a 3G model of the Kindle Fire, and she said, "No, they said Kindle 3D."

This seems too fantastic to believe, and I have no idea why an ereader should need 3D, but the technology does exist, and stranger things have happened. Has anyone else heard anything about a new Kindle 3D?

Interesting, however would not be very helpful since there aren't many movies available in the 3d format. Oh shure they go to the movie theaters in 3d but not to dvd or netflix in 3d format.

Also there is absolutely nothing new about 3D, for those of us old foggy we might recall Jaws 3 from 1983 was also in 3D.

I've not heard about any Kindle 3d. Even if it IS some new product given to a celeb-type to build hype...I'd think they would be able to find someone a little more "in the spotlight" than Whoopi.

Since Whoopi was suppose to have been given the first one produced, I'm wondering if it's a Kindle Fire 3G. Maybe within the few days we'll see an announcement. Or they might be speaking of an existing model, and my wife might have been watching a repeat. I'm reporting all this second hand.

it wasn't jaws 3, it was Jaws 3-D - a play on being in 3D and being teh 3rd in the series. it was later changed to jaws 3 when it was released to the home market for obvious reasons.

the only reason i could think that an ereader would need 3D functionality would be to make digital copies of pop-up books available. and given that it was the View, that makes some amount of sense...
