Das sagt mein Freund Thomas Knip:
"Viele Verlage würde es überhaupt nicht stören, wenn eBooks wieder sang- und klanglos vom Markt verschwinden - und mit ihnen am besten gleich noch das Schreckgespenst Amazon. Und der Ungeist des Self-Publishing."

Das eBook als Störenfried.Stimmt das?

Aus der Sicht von Verlagen, die ihr etablietertes Geschäftsmodell unverändert weiterführen wollen, stimmt es sicherlich. Da stört jegliche Konkurrenz und/oder Veränderung. Ein Blick in die Geschichte würde lehren, das es noch nie etwas genützt hat solche Entwicklungen aufhalten zu wollen. So bitter das für die Betroffenen auch ist.

Ganz spontan fallen mir die diversen Aufständ der Lohnweber ein. Nicht nur die sind gescheitert, sondern auch die, die sich damals deswegen Gedanken gemacht haben. Marx und Engels meine ich. Und die damals entstandene Textilindustrie gibt es auch schon längst nicht mehr, sondern ist in die Billigstlohnländer weitergezogen.

Hmmm, lässt sich denn die Aussage, wenn man sich die Äußerungen deutscher Verlage der letzten Jahre ins Gedächtnis ruft, überhaupt ernsthaft bezweifeln? Ohne deinen Freund vor den Kopf stoßen zu wollen, kommt sie mir doch eher trivial vor. Viel spannender finde ich, dass sich einige langsam damit abzufinden scheinen und die Möglichkeiten zu nutzen versuchen, die sich auftun (wenn man jetzt bspw. mal an die »Hanser-Box« denkt).

Auch Bastei-Lübbe scheint sich mit den eBooks abgefunden zu haben. Thomas Knip ist einenigermassen ernstzunehmender Experte, nicht nur mein Freund.
