pdf (with images) to html to ePub (mac)

Hey everyone.
I'm new with Calibre and I just got a nook simple touch, but I'm kind of disappointed about the pdf format troubles.
I can easily transform pdfs into ePub, but the result is not what I want (too small to read). I know this is related with pdf not being a reflowable format, so I followed a post that advised to transform to html and then to ePub. The result is great but the embedded images disappear. The same happened when tried through open office (odt).
I saw another post that reported the same problem, but the fix was a slow manual process including WinHTTrack and html2epub.exe (I'm on a mac...). I could install it with booth camp, but I think there should be a more straightforward way to do it. Or not? Maybe I'll need to write a small script?

Any comments will be much helpful, thank you !!

I am not experienced with PDF conversions, but you should start by reading the Sticky post titled "Read this before Posting PDF Questions" at the top of this forum.

Just in case, this seems to work always in mac:

1. Open pdf in acrobat pro
2. Save as html
3. Open in open office
4. Check images and format
5. Erase useless or excessive images (from html folder)
6. Save replacing html
7. Open in Calibre
8. Convert to ePub
9. Maintain in Calibre folder with all files
10. Drag from Calibre interface to Nook folder
