A question about georestrictions
I am ( probably) going to NY in September. What I wonder is if I can use my swedish CC to buy e-books from a computer in the US? Or will it still be geo-restricted?
( No. I have no idea how geo restrictions works. Beside it is annoying ) |

Nope. Your account is not tagged American resident. You will have the same access to purchase and download as you do in Sweden.
(However: you will likely be able to use Amazon video download service as that is restricted by real-time delivery rules, not your account details.) |

For most of the US e-book shops the geo-restrictions seem to be determined by the billing address of the credit card you use. For the Sony store, it's the country of registration of your device and then they check the billing address of the credit card you're using.

Do you know from which site you are going to try and buy books? Like bevdeforges said I know the Sony store only works for US and Canada. Still you should be able to find a lot of non-restricted books from other sites if you get desperate.

As others have said, the restrictions are usually applied based on your account, not on your real location. However, they claim georestrictions are needed because of some rules regarding the customer's real location... which means that georestrictions do not solve the problem they are supposed to solve, and are just an annoyance.

I use Kobo and Omnilit for most of my ebooks. With a sprinkle of Sony freebies and Smashwords. But that probably don't matter in this case....
Thanks for the answers! |
