Fletcher, J. S.: Murder in the Squire's Pew, (1932) v1, 25 March 2024

Joseph Smith Fletcher (1863-1935) was an enormously prolific author of fiction and non-fiction, and wrote many detective novels, beginning in the 1880s. He also produced four volumes of short stories.

This is a traditional British whodunit, published in 1932, towards the end of his life.

"The private eye Ronald Camberwell and his associate Chaney are called to investigate the mysterious disappearance of 15th century gold chalice and paten and of two priceless books. These precious antiques have been stolen from a county church’s vestry..." (Google books)

Of course, there's a murder in the offing.

Fun fact. The fictional character in "Murder she wrote" (played by starring Angela Lansbury who never seemed to get older after "Bedknobs and Broomsticks") loosely inspired by Miss Marple (inspired by Miss Silver created by Patricia Wentworth) was called Jessica Fletcher, though her initial was B. Langsbury did actually play Miss Marple in a film before the series.

I've got a few J.S. Fletcher novels, but not read them yet.

Thanks @Pulpmeister
