Laser EB720 shows <No Author> for all books

I recently purchased a Laser EB720.
One major issue is that the software on the device expects the metadata to be embedded in the file properties so the "List by Author" option shows all books as having "<No Author>". Fortunately I loaded my books from Calibre so the "List by Directory" is a reasonable alternative.
Other than the laborious process of updating each book file's properties is there an application that can read through a directory and add the necessary author info to each book file?
