Where do you get content for Astak EZReader?

I'm considering getting a Pocket Pro, but would like to know more about where to purchase content for it (when what I want to read is not available for free or in non DRM form). What are the top stores for this, and how does the selection compare with Amazon or Sony's?

From my knowledge, the only place you cannot get books is through Sony and Amazon.
By the end of the year, though, Sony will have changed their books over to ePub format, so you can then buy through the Sony Store. Amazon has yet to catch on.

Shortcovers, Feedbooks, BooksOnBoard just to name a few that do sell or have free ePub.

Many new titles only come with DRM (encryption). For these ebooks you need to buy Adobe PDF or Adobe ePub. Adobe PDF ebooks are sometimes just called Adobe Digital Editions, after the Adobe app that reads both PDF and ePub. You use Desktop ADE to download the ebooks (and read them on your PC/Mac if you want) and mobile ADE built into the Pocket Pro to read them there.

Books on Board is probably still the best single US source for Adobe ePub ebooks, which work better than Adobe PDF on a Pocket Pro. Note that the entire Sony store is converting to Adobe ePub by the end of the year, and at that point you will be able to buy from them and read on a Pocket Pro.

Astak says they will later on add eReader DRM support to the Pocket Pro, but it isn't a done deal yet (so I would not rely on this). If eReader is added, then many other stores become potential sources for ebooks. The Barnes & Noble ebook store sells only eReader (they own the format), and they try to compete on price with Amazon.

I'd add Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com/) which sells ePub books listed under the title "Multiformat" ONLY. As of this writing Fictionwise's secure ebooks cannot be read on the PPro but their Multiformat books have no DRM and can be downloaded in ePub.

Also, check your local library as many of them will lend out ebooks. My local library has thousands of books in epub or pdf. Typically, the epub expires after a fixed loan period and then the file no longer works and someone else gets to borrow it. Downloading and deleting sure beats going down to the library, especially in the winter as it typically hits -40 (celsius or farenheit) every year where I live.

Dear Tomsem:

Griffonwing is right. The question should be: "Where can I NOT buy content for my Pocket PRO?". This is because it has Adobe Digital Editions for epub and pdf DRM books and twenty other formats for non-DRM. You have endless choices!!

You can go to our Astak website: www.theEZreader.com and under "support" you will find links to millions of free eBooks to start. Try a few FREE eBooks first and then you can builld your library with the latest titles. For DRM books try "Books On Board" and "Powell's Books". Yes, Fictionwise does sell MultiFormat books that will easily work!!

Thank you for considering purchasing a Pocket PRO!! Welcome to an ever-growing crowd!!

As has been bashed thoroughly elsewhere in a thread of the same name - PDF is not an ebook format.

EPub.....definitely the way to go IMHO that emerging standard and the vast number of free classics as well as the ability to check out epubs from my local library is what push me over the fence into the ebook world.

Yeah, I was reading the FAQ on HarperCollins and went with the epub. Still wondering how footnote/endnotes work if at all.

The manual is missing stuff. O_O

Oh, yeah, the manual is very skimpy. That why Dale is looking at adding stuff to the wiki page for this device.

I only just this morning figured out that you can use the bottom "page" forward and back buttons to select items (links) from a table of contents and then use the "okay" (the big right-hand part of the main select button) to jump to that page/link and then you can use the "back" button (the left-hand part of the main select button) to return. ..... at least that appears to be how it works.

That just skips me ahead a page or more. O_o

Edit: Hold down the 7 key and then use the page back and page forward buttons.
Now we are cook with... what's less than fire. Hot rocks or something. We're still moving forward though. The links in this html file aren't working though. Bummer.
