Another T. Jefferson Parker, Silent Joe, is now free. (Was $.99 in December.)

Quote:
Edgar Award Winner, 2001; Los Angeles Times Book Prize, 2001

With the horrible scars of a childhood tragedy forever burned across his face, Joe Trona is scared in more ways than one. Rescued from an orphanage by powerful California politician Will Trona, Joe grows up to be Will's right hand man -- gopher, driver, confidante, bodyguard, fixer. When Will Trona is gunned down in a dark alley in a hail of bullets, quiet, obedient Joe vows revenge.

Looking through his father's life Joe finds his girlfriends, his deals, his friends and enemies. And Joe realizes how many secrets his father possessed and how many people he had the power to harm. But two leads come to the surface of his private investigation -- a kidnapped girl being held by her own psychotic brother, and two rival street gangs who have joined forces. The truths he learns about his father's murder are shocking. And the final truth he hears about what happened to his own face when he was just a baby in a crib changes his life forever -- and once again.

Big Easy Bonanza is an omnibus with three novels (two by Julie Smith and one by Tony Dunbar) and a short story (by Smith). All set, of course, in New Orleans.

It was available in December for $3.99 and is reduced to $0.99 at Amazon US today. Not sure how long it will be reduced.

Full description is in this post from last month's thread:

The Apostles Murders by Jim Laughter is $.99. From Deadly Niche Press.

Quote:
Reverend Samuel (Preach) Preston is a full-time Christian evangelist traveling the country preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. But Preach is on a mission — a mission to re-create the martyrdom of the original apostles of Jesus Christ. To his family he is father and grandfather. To the Christian world, he is a dedicated man of God. But to FBI agents Duncan Morris, Lynn Keller, and George Benjamin, he is a serial killer they must stop before he can kill again.

Here's a freebie for you cozy mystery fans from Midnight Ink:

Heaven Preserve Us: A Home Crafting Mystery by Cricket McRae.

Quote:
Wine jelly. Watermelon pickles. And a suicidal stalker? Great.

Thirty-something crafter extraordinaire Sophie Mae Reynolds makes preserves by day and answers a crisis center help referral line by night. What better way to help people while still keeping a low profile? But on her very first night, she gets a call from a man who is threatening suicide . . . and her. Angrily deeming the caller a crank, her boss, Philip Heaven, disconnects the line. Days later, Philip dies from a nasty case of botulism. Now, as a stalker singles out Sophie Mae, Philip's eerie last words keep coming back to haunt her: Threat. Meant it.

Stirring up the town with talk of murder by preserves, can Sophie Mae and her handsome boyfriend Detective Barr Ambrose spoil a mad murderer's poisonous plans?

This dangerously delicious second book in the Home Crafting Mystery series also includes recipes for preserves and beauty products!

Repeat medical thriller freebie from last year: Stigma by Philip Hawley, Jr. Originally published in paper in 2007 by HarperCollins.

Quote:
When science surrenders to man's darkest impulses, who will protect the innocents?

In Los Angeles, a young Mayan boy with a blue-crescent-moon tattoo dies mysteriously. In Central America, a puzzling illness is spreading among Mayan tribal villages.

And soon, E.R. physician Luke McKenna will discover the link between these events and demons from his dark past. The secrets that haunt Luke are about to pull him and the woman he loves into a terrifying house of mirrors where nothing is as it first appears. Time is running out, and only by reawakening the ghost of Luke McKenna's past can they discover the truth.

His enemies may also discover a truth: When threatened, Luke McKenna is a very dangerous man.
