Hubbard may have been a religious nut (or an astute businessman - take your pick) but he was also a decent enough SF author. I don't include in that the ghastly "Mission Earth" decalogy (which he almost certainly wrote very little of), but I enjoy a lot of his SF. "Battlefield Earth" remains one of my favourite "space opera" books.

Battlefield Earth was awful. Wordy and it should have been at least 1/2 the size.

I do know the difference between I don't like it, but others might find it enjoyable and it's total garbage. In this case, total garbage applies.

I disagree. I think it's a thoroughly good read. (Unlike the film version of it, which is truly dire.)

Actually, the film version is much better then the book because it takes less time to suffer through the movie then it does to suffer through the book. In either case, they both suck the life right out of you.
