Text files duplicate metadata etc?
Hi,
I'm told that it is good to have a separate text file for each chapter (I agree). But the examples only show a single file. What I need to know is whether all the metadata <!DOCTYPE... etc should be repeated at the top of each text file, or whether I can create a single file for all that stuff and separate files just with the body section? If the latter, exactly which tags are required in the chapter files (eg do they all need a <body> ... </body> or does the first chapter need to start the <body> with the </body> tag at the end of the last chapter?) Thanks for your help. |

Each "text" file should be a valid xhtml file, with all the doctype, head and body sections.

The <!DOCTYPE... is not needed. In fact, in some cases you should not use it (if you use XHTML+SVG, for instance). Otherwise, the files must be proper XHTML files, with <?xml..., <html>, <head> and <body> tags.
