Restore to brand new?

I'm thinking of selling my old Kobo Original, I might get a few dollars for it on an auction site, and was wondering what the best way is for me to get it back to a "brand new" state?

Obviously I want to remove my Kobo account details and anything else so that when the new owner turns it on for the first time it's like a brand new device just out of the box.

Will a simple factory restore do all of this?

Yes. That's why when you do a factory restore, you have to go through the whole setup procedure again.

Has anybody went through the procedure to de-register the reader with Kobo and Adobe? Any emailing to support involved?

I am thinking of giving my Touch to my son when and if I upgrade to Aura...

Just log out of your account on the Touch, create a new account for him and let him login. From then on, the Touch will download books from his account. Adobe is pretty much the same.

Connect the Touch to your computer, open ADE and deauthorize the Touch. I'd then suggest a factory reset if you want a clean Touch to hand over or logging out of your account if you want to leave sideloaded books, fonts, etc. in place. After you've handed the Touch over, he can connect it to ADE and reauthorize to allow borrowing DRMed library books or reading DRMed books that you have purchased.

No emails to support should be needed.

David

Depending on what kind of stuff you have on your ereader and your privacy concerns, you might consider something like low level formatting of the user partition.

Thanks guys! I did a factory restore and then plugged it into my PC to see what was left, there were a few empty directories and Calibre files, so I deleted those too.

Should be all good to sell now.
